"O Holy Night"
[Contributed by Larry Ford, Monticello, Kentucky] When Gene asked me to choose my favorite Christmas carol I felt sure it was an impossible task. But by stripping away the accumuated traditions of two millenia and focusing on the stable in Bethlehem where a boy-child was born I was able to narrow the search down considerably.
Of those carols that remained my favorite is "O Holy Night" as sung by the American Boychoir on their 1996 album "Carol" (EMI CDC 7243 5 56180 2 3). The Boychoir is accompanied by the Albemarle Consort of Voices (former ABS alumni) and Orchestra. The recording can be obtained from the choir's WEBSITE. Why is this my favorite Christmas carol? Because I believe it presents the whole story of why the Christmas miracle was necessary. If you listen carefully to the words you will find that the message embodied in this carol is as appropriate and meaningful for today as it was two thousand years ago. Please give it your undivided attention. My Christmas wish to all my friends throughout the world is: "Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth Peace, good will toward men." MERRY CHRISTMAS!

"Zither Carol"
[Contributed by Fred Kennedy, Miramichi, New Brunswick] I’m going back into the past for this Christmas photo, when I used to be the Sparks (radio officer) on commercial ships. We had such a large and varied Christmas dinner that it took quite a while just to read the menu and decide what to order.
I would probably spend hours listening on my short wave radio for Christmas music. If a boy choir such as the British Columbia Boys Choir showed up on the radio, I would have listened and enjoyed. This is a selection from their CD “Legacy” called “Zither Carol”,a traditional Czechoslovakian carol. BCBC00194 Fred (veggie_can)
"Entre le boeuf et l'ane gris"
[Contributed by Joseph Cowden, Winchester, Virginia] Sorry to take so long but photographers don't usually have many pictures of themselves. After taking this self-portrait of myself working on my stations Christmas programming today I see why I do it so infrequently. Feel free to leave it out and substitute my attempt at an English translation of the song.
The picture is from the CD "Noel avec les Petits Chanteurs a la Croix de Bois" which was released last Christmas and is available from their WEBSITE.
"The Twelve Days Of Christmas"
[Contributed by Gene Bitner, Amarillo, Texas] Where would twelve days of Christmas gifts include flower leis, coconuts, hula lessons, missionaries and a myna bird in a papaya tree? Hawaii, of course!
The Honolulu Boy Choir really seemed to enjoy singing this one back around 1980. I chose this recording simply because I enjoy hearing boys sing 'fun' songs, as well as the more serious ones. It was taken from the cassette "Christmas With The Honolulu Boy Choir", SLC-7047. I'm sure it's no longer in production, but perhaps it could be found on E-Bay or some other auction site? These boys were in Washington, D.C. this year to sing for the WWII Memorial dedication.
