Schöneberger Sängerknaben

As this page was being published, the source DVD, "Deutsche Weihnacht", was available for purchase [in PAL format] at Amazon, Germany. Please support our boychoir artists! When Gerhard Hellwig founded the Schöneberger Sängerknaben in 1947, Berlin still lay in ruins. Every third apartment was destroyed. The everyday food ration amounted to 1,500 calories. On the black market a loaf of bread cost 80 DM and 1 pound of butter cost 600 DM. About 300,000 Berliners were jobless. Hellwig's goal was to have his choir sing around the world to demonstrate that Germany had completely broken from its Nazi past. The choir's WEBSITE is in German only.
